Do you need to replace every fitting?
When a facility starts considering a move to LED, replacing every fitting often seems like the obvious answer.
But have they considered the real cost?
A new LED high-bay fitting might cost $200-$600.
Replacing it in an operating industrial facility is another story.
- Hardware (fitting and accessories) …………… $200-$600
- Elevated access equipment (hire per hour)… $150-$300
- Electrician labour per hour.……………………. $150-$300
- Testing per hour …………………………………… $150-$300
- Production interruptions and downtime …… Often the largest cost
For many facilities, the installed cost of replacement can easily exceed $1,500 to $2,000 per fitting.
A warehouse with 50 fittings can quickly become a $60,000-$80,000 project.
A larger site with 200 fittings can exceed $400,000.
Which is why many facilities delay the decision, continue replacing lamps, or upgrade one fitting at a time — often at maximum cost and disruption.
The good news is that moving to LED does not necessarily mean replacing every fitting.
In many cases, the existing luminaire housing remains structurally sound and fit for purpose.
The question is not always:
“Do I need a new fitting?”
The better question is:
“Do I simply need new technology inside the fitting?”
In our next email, we’ll show how existing luminaires can be transformed into modern LED lighting systems at a fraction of the cost of full replacement.
